Massimiliano Allegri is back at AC Milan 11 years after his first spell ended, and the club are convinced it is the ideal time for him to return.
As Calciomercato.com write, Milan need to start from scratch after a very difficult season that ended without qualifying for any European competition, and with two head coaches – Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao – who tried and failed to provide a spark.

Why Allegri?
Milan wants to put a negative year behind them, where everything went badly and at the end of which the fans made themselves heard with protests and disputes. The club want to put a full stop to the negativity and turn the page, draw a line by putting what has happened behind them.
Now, however, they can no longer make mistakes. This is why they went for an experienced and winning coach like Allegri, a coach who knows the Rossoneri environment well, a figure of personality and leadership.
Allegri has signed a two-year contract with an option for a third, the coach will be involved in the mercato and will have his say on important decisions, along with the sporting director Igli Tare of course.
Among Allegri’s first requests is that Mike Maignan stays at the club, and the Frenchman will be offered a contract renewal given that his current deal runs out in June 2026.
The coach’s idea is to create the team around Rafael Leao, who can become the cornerstone of Milan in the future. Theo Hernandez is expected to leave meanwhile.
They didn’t “decide” – he was the “best” one of a bad bunch. Look at the names they were looking at – with absolutely nothing to tie them together. Same with Tare.
They took who was still available. That’s because even after the absolute disaster of the season that just ended, management STILL don’t have a project aside from, Top4 finish. Not, winning. No. Just risk minimization. THat’s what Allegri is – averse to risk.
This opinion is correct but to a certain degree. The guys at Milan were always pushing for a Sporting Director from Italy who is also very successful.
The most successful SD is at Inter, the next best SD in my opinion is the SD at Atalanta and they tried to get him and it didn’t happen.
I think Tare is decent, so it isnt the worst SD but he isnt the best and the same goes for Allegri. This club has a team that shouldn’t be in 8th. So getting top 4 is easy for someone like Allegri. But I agree understanding this team is already better than being 8th should already mean that the objective should be the title always.
So I personally have an expectation and I know allegri isnt capable of doing a good enough job. So I expect locker room issues, tactics being dead because it will be slow and s lot of nil-nil games.
So just waiting to see hoe the market goes.

With the squads/players he had, he should won even more. Next season will tell if he’s a phony or the real deal. 🙂
Flossonero, he won the titles on the back of Conte’s team. How many titles did he win second time around. Theres a reason he was out of management for long periods whilst getting his lying to say Real Madrid was after him. This guy give youth zero chance and like Inzaghi continually plays team of really old and slow players. I guarantee you Conte will again finish above him whilst this guy will play the most boring losing football.
How is that a fair assertion? Did Conte win off the back of Mazzari or Spalleti? Credit should be given to whomever is on the bench when the team wins. 5 Serie A titles with Juve and one with us, and an additional 8 domestic cups. The guy can win in Italy, which is exactly what we need for the upcoming season.
He won 5 consecutive leagues, 6 coppas, 3 super coppas, and took them to two UCL finals. Come on bro.
Who excites you more on our bench? Conte or Allegri?
@Flossonero some context around those titles will go a long way. Allegri won with Juve when 1. Juve had literally zero competition in the league and 2. Required some of the best talents in Europe to do so. Even his title with us required prime Ibra. Strip those things away (second stint) and that’s his “real” ability.
Who excites me more? I think Allegri has won one more Serie A title than Conte. Conte went to 3 UCL finals and Allegri went to 2. Allegri managed 3 consecutive top 3 finishes with a Milan team that was the start of the Banter era. I don’t see much separation in terms of their success that would cause me to rate one higher than the other.
I don’t want excitement. I want a team with a clear identity, that gives maximum effort, and who doesn’t ship BS goals to anyone wearing a pair of football boots. I want a manager who knows the league, who has some gravitas and personality, and can manage youngsters as well as superstars. Allegri fits that profile. Conte was Napoli’s manager. It is always easier to continue together than to make a new adventure. All things being equal, we got the best available manager for what we need.

You’re right. He was in 3 finals as player not a manager. Another point to Allegri. I don’t think Conte has won a UCL knockout game as a manager in over a decade.

The answer is simple – Conte. Conte excites me more because he will deliver the results and deliver the Scudetto. Allegri will get you to top 4 with one competition. Allegri is everything RedBird wants to be – maintain relevance. That’s it.
Because if they wanted to win they would have brought Conte last season.

For once in YEARS, ACM actually decided something. For one in years (ever?) Furlani actually did something right, and that was to appoint Tare as SD. Is he the best SD around? Nope, is he the best among available SD? Most likely.
This SD then acted fast and secured us a good coach, The best around in the world right now? nope.
The best available? most likely.
Finally our management is doing something, and a bunch of cry-babies here some sm.com whine.

100% agree. They moved quickly and decisively on SD and manager, which to me is an implicit admission that they messed up last year. Allegri is a six time Serie A winner. He’s exactly the type of manager we need now.

Let’s face it. He only came to Milan because Conte decided to continue his journey in Napoli. But, in all honesty, we have to also give credit to the management. At least this time they did something different.
Inexperienced coach and a scout acting as SD had gone fiasco. So to get ourself an experienced coach and SD while hoping a different result is a logical decision.
Build a project Leao is a project dead on arrival. A team isn’t built around a player. A team is a team. Look at PSG. Dembele is the leader of the team but not built around him. The coach should build a team not build around a player. He should build a system that anyone can walk into and fit in not what a player is out or out of form, the team is dead. Leao shouldn’t be considered when building a team around a player or choosing a leader. I love what I saw from Dembele yesterday, and in extension the PSG Squad. Mobile and agile. Our mid field isn’t that mobile to complement the forward department.
Agree on we shouldn’t build team around Leao. As I said many times here, we should treat Leao like Ronaldinho in Messi’s Barca. A supplement, a wild card, a cherry on top, a shiny accessory. He’s def not a leader, on or off the field. If there’s someone we really have to build our team around is Pulisic.

Despite his boring Allegri Ball, he one of the best active Serie A manager. He only missed CL spot twice since 2010. One with Milan on the banter era 13/14. Second with Juve in 22/23 bcz poin deduction, so Milan take his 4th place
