Joshua Zirkzee remains the number one target for AC Milan in view of the summer window despite the recent links to Benjamin Sesko, according to a report.
MilanNews begin their update by confirming that Olivier Giroud will hang up his red and black shirt for the final time after the match against Salernitana on May 26th to join Los Angeles FC and will therefore have to be replaced.
The top names on the list are those of Zirzkee and Sesko. The former is ‘certainly the favourite’ in the eyes of the Milan management and is actually the number one target for the mercato in general, with a €60m outlay required to sign him.
Contacts between the parties are continuous and efforts are being made to find an economic solution. The Dutchman has impressed this season and is dragging Bologna towards qualification for a European competition, something that hasn’t happened since the 1998-99 campaign.
Sesko of Leipzig remains a credible alternative though. He has scored 16 goals in total this season for the Bundesliga club and he has different characteristics from Zirkzee, such as more height and size, but he has been tracked since his Red Bull Salzburg days.
According to Sky Germany, thanks to Sesko’s good performances in the second half of the season the release clause in his contract has now risen to €65m, and could go up even further yet.
LOL. Yesterday it was articles saying Sesko was no. 1. Today it’s Zirkzee. Tomorrow it will be Giurassy. The day after it will be Sesko again. And so on and so forth.
Like I’ve said before, they will punish contradictory articles almost back to back on this site. Save your energy for when a contract is signed.
Not sure it’s only the media. I hope that the management has several options in mind. Also they seem lost all the time, last summer they targeted Thuram, Scamacca, Lukaku and Taremi to end up with Jovic.
I think that’s the problem. They are noncommittal searching for the best deal while others move decisively for their number one target. We must choose our target, make every reasonable effort to secure it, and consider alternatives only in the event we are beaten to the number one.
There is a saying, pennywise is dollar foolish. Imagine if Milan had made Thuram their unequivocal number one target and was willing to match or exceed Inters salary offer for him. Or imagine we coughed up the few extra millions for Taremi. We may be currently reaping the financial rewards that come with the Scudetto or a deeper UCL run. Because we were unclear about our number, we weren’t convinced of making the financial commitment necessary. To be clear these weren’t massive fees being contemplated. It was a matter of 1 million net difference in salary for Thuram or another 5 millions or so for Taremi. It’s the lack of conviction of the choices that has seen us bottle the transfer market.

Also, Thuram isn’t a n9. he is more of a winger or a 2nd striker. Similar player to Origi. Pioli wouldn’t have known how to use him. Thuram looked good at inter playing next to Lautaro. He is awful playing as a lone striker for France.
Thuram didn’t puck inter just because of the money but also because they fit his game better and he was already close to signing with them that previous January but injury stopped his transfer.
Taremi this season has 9 goals and 6 assists in 2300 minutes in all competitions. Jovic has 9 goals and 1 assists in half the time, 1150 minutes.
Once again you try to push your own opinion as the undisputed truth when it’s very debatable. Thuram is not awful with France. You don’t know why he chose Inter, unless you’re close to him? He has the same style as Okafor and yet fans criticize Pioli because he doesn’t play Okafor as a 9.
I think Flossonero’s point was to demonstrate that this management is more interested in saving pennies than being really ambitious with their top targets. We dont want to give 0,5M more to Thuram but then we spend 15M on Okafor. Nonsense. And don’t forget that it took more than one month to negotiate for Taremi, what a joke.
They might be tempted to buy Armando Broja, who is on the market for 25 mln. The media near Chelsea said Milan tried to get him on loan in January. Or a similar profile with a similar price. It might happen that the new striker is not one of the common names cited in the media.
Seems legit since we like to shop in Chelsea’s trash. We were linked to him last year as well before his major injury. Hopefully he’s not plan A but on loan it could work.
Any of the names mentioned are an upgrade to Giroud who, despite his age, had respectable numbers.
Any of those will do. Just need the right coach to integrate and use them properly.
