AC Milan and Man Utd alerted as 197-goal striker becomes available – report

AC Milan and Manchester United are both interested in signing Mario Mandzukic on a free transfer, according to a report from England.

It is seemingly no secret that the Rossoneri are in the market for a new centre-forward with doubts over the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the general lack of depth in that particular position.

TodoFichajes reported on Monday that Mandzukic is once again a target after he was heavily linked with a move to Milan back in January, with Milan looking to add experience and leadership as the Swede nears an exit.

Mandzukic moved to Qatar last December after struggling to make an impression under Maurizio Sarri, but his contract has been terminated after just six months meaning he is free to sign with another club.

The Sun are claiming that Manchester United have been alerted to the opportunity as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for forward depth to take some of the workload off the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, while there are doubts about Odion Ighalo’s stay.

However, they add that Milan will provide competition as the Rossoneri do indeed see Mandzukic as the ideal replacement for Ibrahimovic.

In his career across spells with Juventus, Dinamo Zagreb, Wolfsburg, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, NK Zagreb and Al Duhail, the Croatian has 197 goals in 497 appearances as per Transfermarkt.
