The AC Milan women beat Sampdoria by a score of 3-1 last Sunday as they look to finish out the Serie A Femminile season on a high note, and though the second phase of the season is winding down, the Rossonere are also preparing for a busy summer.
Milan are confirmed to be participating in the ‘Her Nations Tour’ tournament, which is being hosted by C.F. Monterrey in Mexico. The first match will be played on June 12th and will be hosted in the Monterrey-based side’s home stadium, the Estadio BBVA. Kickoff will be at 20:00 CST / 4 AM CEST.
The rumour was first reported by the Mexican sports site, ONCE Diario. Now, it’s confirmed that the Rossonere will play two summer friendlies in Mexico, both against Las Rayadas and against Pachucha on June 15th.
The stated goal of the tournament is to promote women’s football in Mexico. The women’s game has been on the rise in the country and Milan will help foster its growth by playing two of the country’s best teams.
The games will also be played at two, large stadiums as most of the Liga MX Femenil teams share the same venues as their male counterparts, which makes the games all the more remarkable, as most other women’s teams around the world are not afforded the same privilege.
This is also not the first time that Milan has played a Mexican-based side, as the Rossonere played Club América in a friendly tournament hosted by Racing Louisville in 2022. Las Águilas went on to win that game by a score of 5-4.
The only difference is that this time around, Milan will be playing a game down south and not in the United States. This will also be the first time the women’s team has played in Mexico as well.
In the meanwhile, and back in Italy, the Rossonere will be out of action this weekend as this is their bye week for league play following the victory over Sampdoria.
The team will, however, resume play on May 1st, as they’ll take on Pomigliano for the Poule Salvezza. The game will be played at the Stadio Amerigo Liguori in Napoli and kickoff time will be at 12:30 CEST.
