AC Milan to compete in the International Champions Cup

By Anthony Torgrude -

With international football firmly behind us, it is now time to look ahead towards preseason tournament friendlies such as the International Champions Cup.

The ICC came to fruition in 2013 in the United States and has since become tradition. Other iterations of the competition were implemented in Australia and China last year and return for this summer as well.

AC Milan has taken part in every iteration of the tournament, picking up third place in the inaugural season as well as an abysmal last place finish in 2014 and runner-up last year in the Chinese variant of the Cup.

This year Milan will return to the USA and compete in a challenging group filled with Bayern Munich, Liverpool FC, and Chelsea FC. The Rossoneri will take on all three in that order.

Game one: Bayern Munich

The five time Champions league winners will take on the seven time Champions league winners on July 27th at Solider Field in Chicago Illinois. This stadium has a maximum capacity of 61,500. Kick off is expected at 20:00 CDT. Former gaffer of Milan, Carlo Ancelotti, is now at the helm of Bayern so expect fireworks!

Game two: Liverpool FC

In the second match up we finally get to witness the rubber match. Liverpool holding the world’s most famous Champions League final upset over Milan in 2005 and Milan getting redemption in the 2007 final, the fans in attendance in Santa Clara, California are in for a treat! Levi’s Stadium maxes out at 75,000 seats. Kick off tentative for 19:00 PDT on July 30th.

Game three: Chelsea FC

In the 2013 iteration of this friendly cup, Chelsea eliminated Milan and proceeded to become champions. This year Milan plan to capitalize on The Blue’s poor form of late. The match begins at 20:00 CDT on August 3rd, as the first major event to take place at the new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota with seating room for 73,000.
