Belotti’s former agent reveals background on missed Milan move: “I still don’t get it”

In the summer of 2017, Andrea Belotti was heavily linked with AC Milan and several other top clubs. Being a boyhood Rossoneri fan, many expected the striker to join them but the move never materialised.

In the 2016/17 season, Belotti bagged an impressive 26 goals in the league and Milan made an attempt to sign him. Torino’s demands were high and other clubs were interested as well, but the outcome could have been different.

Speaking to Tuttosport, as cited by Radio Rossonera, Belotti’s former agent Sergio Lancini has revealed the background to all of the rumours. He admitted that he still doesn’t know why a move never materialised for Belotti.

“At Torino, he immediately that two extraordinary years, which attracted the attention of great clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Milan. At the end of the 2016/17 season, when Andrea Belotti had scored 26 goals, they made important advances.

“Why didn’t a transfer take place? I’ll be honest, I still don’t get it. What I can say is that, at the end of the 2016/17 season, just as I was putting the aforementioned offers on the table for the player and Torino, which would have led to a significant contractual improvement, Andrea asked me to review the conditions of our partnership,” he stated.

Belotti’s contract with Torino expired in the summer and he decided to join Roma on a free transfer, as Milan never even made an attempt. It’s not been a successful move thus far, struggling to impose himself in the capital.

  1. Made no sense to me either. He’s free and although he hasn’t don’t mucb this year he hasn’t really played and he at the very least is more of a guarantee than origi… weird we didn’t sign him for free.

  2. Blame Cairo. The guy thinks Belotti worth €100 million despite Belotti doesn’t have any win records outside Serie-A.

And now no big clubs wants him after he got long injury records that affected his performance.

Just look at his stats at Roma; still 0 goals at Serie-A and 2 goals at EUL against weak teams HJK Helsinki and Real Betis. Belotti is pretty much done. I’m not surprise if next season Roma let him go and he plays for Serie-B clubs.

  3. Belotti is no longer what he used to be and besides when I saw some Milan fans tweeting that the management shlould sign him, I do wander whether those people are really Milan fans. How can you see someone who looks like a 37 or so years old with no agility and who is easily neutralized by defenders and you expect Milan to sign him. Some people are here if you are given the opportunity to sign players for Milan, you will end up sinking the team

  4. “It’s not been a successful move thus far, struggling to impose himself in the capital…” Wow, what a surprise. We can do better than Belotti surely?

  5. It is ok with Belotti. He probably passed his best and will never be at the top level. But why didn’t we sign Dybala? Or go for a decent RW? Now we struggle in attacks like a bird with only one wing.

  6. Watching the Roma game? That’s why nobody really wants him. No goals all year and can’t even score a PK. Don’t know why they let him take it, I knew that he was going to miss.
