CorSera: ‘Little personality’ and poor results – several Milan stars on trial for next season

By Ben Dixon -

Following this season, there are no safeties for AC Milan, and several key players are ‘facing trial’ to be playing at the club next season, a report suggested this morning.

Everyone around Milan knows about this season’s disappointments – the reminders are clear to see and hurt the most. The humiliation of the 5-1 Derby della Madonnina defeat, the Champions League exit, the Europa League exit at the hands of AS Roma, and finally handing the Scudetto to Inter at San Siro.

Therefore, change has been widely expected ahead of the summer, starting with Stefano Pioli’s exit. However, there is a chance that a star could depart as well, given this season has offered no clarity.

Corriere della Sera (via Radio Rossonera) have reported that the Diavolo’s stars are also to blame for this season’s disappointments. Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez, Mike Maignan and Fikayo Tomori are all accused of having ‘little personality’. As a result, none are guaranteed a place next season.

Whilst Leao is under contract until 2028, there has been persistent interest in him, as there has been also with Maignan and Theo. However, for the latter duo, their contracts expire in the summer of 2026, and their value depreciates as that date grows nearer.

  1. Sell them all. For me it’s clear they have no desire to play for Milan anymore , they are disinterested and bored. In this situation they can not lift the team and help us to progress and make performance. It’s better to let them leave and replace them properly. Life goes on, it’s not the end of the world. Everyone is replaceable. For example , last summer Leverkusen brought in Grimaldo as a left defender on free deal. Grimaldo proves himself the best left back in Europe this season, much better than our mighty Theo…
I would replace Theo with Dorgu from Lecce, Maignan with Di Gregorio or Carnesecchi, Tomori with Buongiorno. Leao is harder to replace I must recognize that , but it’s not impossible.

    1. Bro you want to replace all of our starters and start and expect to be competitve next season? on top of new manager and tactics? If so, dont be pissed if we dont make it top 4 next season, let alone advance in any competiton. If you are happy with that then play the patient game, let next season be a construction season and then be competitive come 2025/2026

    2. And you think they are being coached by the right person in this Milan team? You think Pioli is the right person to coach and ginger these lads? A man that lacks team management, can’t even handle the ego of his stars just like Klopp often do.

I have been a top fan of Pioli but I stopped supporting him this season because it became obvious that he’s clueless and only depends on Leao to save his ass, when Leao doesn’t score or assist the team flops, Pioli is totally out of idea and no style of play.

      I don’t blame the players 1 bit.

      1. Pioli’s last 4 seasons at Milan :
        2nd place
        1st – Scudetto
4th place – ( Semi finals of Champions League)
        2nd place (this season)
Keep in mind all of this with probably the 3rd or 4th best squad in Serie A.
        Terrible, terible coach!

    3. 100% agree on selling them all and also include Theo, RLC and Bennacer.
Start over with new guys that have the desire and willing to win, this are parasites

  2. The individual criticism is fair but it’s important to point out that the team is not functioning as a unit. The team shouldn’t collapse because Leao is having a bad game. The system collapsed with the reconstruction of the midfield which cannot create, defend, nor keep possession and control the game. Diaz and Tonali were huge losses that the management couldn’t replace. They couldn’t even replace Krunic which created an even bigger hole. Why would we trust them to replace Leao or Theo?
How many people here see RLC, Reijnders, Musah, Adli as a Scudetto-winning midfield let alone a CL-winning one? Diaz, Tonali, Bennacer,Krunic at least boast a CL semi-final appearance

  3. I would sell Tomori. In high-pressure situations he tends to make simple errors. He seems to not have further room for growth. For 50-60 mln Man U and Tottenham could be interested in him.

  4. Keeping your players motivated and hungry for more is a big part of being a great coach.
Ancelotti was never a brilliant tactician.
A strategist, yes.. a good communicator, absolutely.. but not the greatest tactician we have seen.
Lifting his players up after the catastrophic Istanbul final alone needs an award.

Bottom line is.. that too is on Pioli.

  5. Tomori is prone to mistakes because of his overly-aggressive defensive style. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. Just means it needs to be coached out of him.

Maignan’s biggest problem is his fitness… That’s a bigger problem at the club.

Theo’s form is a temperature gauge in the locker room, which of late is a joke.

Leao has always been inconsistent. He isn’t a leader and won’t carry this team. He still remains the most dangerous player in our team. Otherwise if he was everything we wanted him to be, he would be at Real Madrid or ManCity, not Milan. He CAN be coached to be considerably better, but not by Pioli.

Players should always be held accountable but when the whole team looks lost and disinterested, the fault lies with the person leading them…

As for the people here trying to offload our best players……. LMFAO!!! Dense.

  6. Maignan and tomori are sellable if the right offers come in. We need a full season from kalulu afyer the injuries and I think we could use tomori money to upgrade the D. I like sportiello, we sell maignan and we can put those funds toward another position with some going to a back up gk.
