CorSera: Pioli prepares ‘sensible rotation’ amid important Roma clashes

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will be up against Roma in the Europa League quarters and looking at the schedule, Stefano Pioli should have some room for rotation. Having learned from past mistakes, as a report highlights, the rotation will be sensible.

The two clashes against Roma are scheduled for April 11 and April 18, with the first leg to be played at San Siro. Milan will take on Lecce before the first leg, and then Sassuolo before the second leg, so Pioli’s plan is certainly to rotate the starting XI a bit.

As highlighted by Corriere della Sera this morning (via MilanNews), Pioli has learned from past mistakes and there will be no ‘maxi-rotation’ for these games. However, with the derby also coming up after the second leg against Roma, it will be necessary to give the starters some rest.

Thankfully, Milan have much better depth compared to last season, with the likes of Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic doing well when given the chance. The same goes for players such as Yunus Musah and Matteo Gabbia, with the latter almost becoming a starter.

Of course, a lot will likely also depend on the outcome of the first leg against Roma. A good result in that game could perhaps make things a bit easier for Pioli, but the certainty is that rotation will take place.

    1. We still need to win about 4 games (12 points) to make sure we get a CL spot. Getting rotation and points would be very important before the break… Fingers crossed no injuries in the next game and during international break.
