CorSport: Lopetegui a serious candidate for post-Pioli era after meeting Milan directors

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli’s future with AC Milan hangs in the balance and with the summer approaching fast, the Rossoneri are evaluating the situation. According to a report, they have also looked around for other managers, meeting Julen Lopetegui twice.

Lopetegui has been linked with Milan in the past, having been without a job since August 2023, and it seems that the links are heating up. Following Milan’s defeat against Roma, in the presence of Gerry Cardinale in the stands, the uncertain position of Pioli has once again been highlighted.

According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, as cited by Goal, Milan certainly have their eyes on Lopetegui and have sounded out the Spanish manager twice already. In other words, the interest is concrete and it’s not merely a suggestion for the post-Pioli era.

Having said that, there is currently no proposal on the table as the Rossoneri are yet to make a final decision on Pioli. This will be made at the end of the season, but as highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, it could become clear already at the end of this month.

Lopetegui has an international philosophy and he has worked well with young players in the past, which is something that Milan appreciate. The first contracts took place two months ago and it remains to be seen if they will heat up in the coming weeks.

  1. Pioli PR team at it again.

Every time his position is in question, they start throwing around random nobodies to scare everyone and change the narrative from “Pioli’s time is over” to “If this loser is the only option, than we’re better off sticking with Pioli”.

  2. Lopetugui?… It’s hard to understand why they consider him a step up to Pioli. He knows nothing of the Italian tactical doctrine, he spectacularly failed at a high level team.
I hope this is just media hogwash that never materializes.

    1. you should ask yourself the same question about why you think Motta or De Zerbi is a step up when they won nothing and never dealt with 2 games a week

          1. By ‘people’ you are referring to yourself and Boulden’s fake accounts. I don’t need you to like me lol. I told you rather not to respond my comments and I won’t respond to yours but somehow you are obsessed with me lol

When it comes to Boulden, it’s between me and his fake accounts, I would ask you to mind your damn business and don’t put your nose everywhere 🙂

All the best by the way

  3. Give Sarri a chance…who is Lopetui, what philosophy are they referring too. If they want a youth coach they might as well go for Xavi.

  4. Lopetegui rumors started at Relevo which is a Spanish publication which has even less relevance than Italian media.

These only flare up after a loss and as such should be disregarded. I don’t know who in their right mind thinks Lopetegui is an upgrade to Pioli.

  5. You know, anytime this endless talk of a new coach comes up, I just cant help but to think, Pioli is his own enemy. The number of times he’s shot himself in the foot…….smh

  6. Hahaha.. lopetegui ?? What is his milestone ?? Jobless almost 2 years.. milan seek a manager relegation specialist ?? Haha… This is a jokes
