Costacurta discusses Atalanta move as De Ketelaere ‘forgot his qualities’ at Milan

By Isak Möller -

Billy Costacurta has shared his thoughts on Charles De Ketelaere’s recent loan move to Atalanta, following what was a disappointing first season with AC Milan. A move the Milan legend believes was the right one.

De Ketelaere was announced by Atalanta earlier this week, with the latter paying €3m to Milan for the loan. They will cover the player’s entire salary and will also have a buy-out option at €22-23m, while Milan will be entitled to 10% of a future resale. In addition, there are €4m in bonuses.

Speaking to Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, Billy Costacurta shared his thoughts on De Ketelaere’s move to Atalanta. The former Milan man believes it was the right decision for all parties involved as the Belgian ‘forgot his qualities’.

“The right choice for all parties involved, especially for him. In the Champions League, he had been MVP four times with Club Brugge, but at Milan he forgot his qualities. Even in the U21 Euros he played poorly, it wasn’t just with the Milan shirt he struggled,” he stated.

De Ketelaere will be hoping to revive his career under the management of Gian Piero Gasperini and in case he leaves permanently, Milan will register a capital gain on the balance sheet.
