Donnarumma: “Thanks to Milan, I feel like a man”

By Anthony Torgrude -

Gianluigi Donnarumma has revealed his delight to be back in training as he gets ready for life under Marco Giampaolo.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper returned early to begin preseason preparations, and spoke to Milan TV about the future.

“I arrived a little earlier than normal to be ready and start with the rest of the team,” Donnarumma said.

“I had to leave the field in Ferrara [in the last game of last season, against SPAL] quickly, but I am ready to start the season.

“The first day back always brings strong emotions. We want to get back to where we need to be, in European competition. Sorry we did not do it for this season.

“As the coach and manager have said, we can work harder to get there and return to where we deserve to be.”

Donnarumma then reflected on the ending of last season. “Ten minutes from the end of last season we were in the Champions League. Then we all know how that finished. There was so much bitterness, but it is an extra push this year.

“I am more mature even for only 20 years old and that is thanks to Milan, I feel like a man. I have improved on the field as well but there is much more to learn. In every workout you most give your best to continue improving.”
