Frosinone boss Di Francesco ‘sorry’ after ‘annoying’ defeat against Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Frosinone head coach Eusebio Di Francesco believes that his side were lacking a bit of luck and also some more clinical finishing in their 3-2 defeat to AC Milan.

Milan were made to work extremely hard to get all three points away at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Saturday evening, needing a late winner from Luka Jovic to make it 3-2 having already surrendered a lead.

Olivier Giroud’s header had given the Rossoneri the lead early on, but then the home side hit back through a Soule penalty and then took the lead through Mazzitelli in the second half.

Matteo Gabbia levelled things up not long after that, and then Jovic was the super sub once again as he popped up in the right place at the right time to win it inside the final ten minutes.

Di Francesco spoke to DAZN after the game to try and assess what was a difficult night for his side, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

How do you assess the game?

“Sorry. After a performance like that, as we’ve done several times against the big teams, it’s annoying not to take anything home. That pinch, not of luck, but of malice, was missing in some moments of the match.

“Like on the corner from which the equaliser came. These are small naiveties that come at a high price. I’m sorry because the team stood up to Milan in a great way. But you always look at the result in the end.

“But the performance remains good, both on a performance and general level. Even after the lead the boys had to continue doing what they had done before.

“Our strength comes from there, from the fact that we want to build at all costs and not to defend ourselves low.”

How are the team after a tough result?

“We had 10 bad days, but the boys reacted great. let’s not forget that today we played with two full-backs who are two midfielders.

“The real full-backs came in at the end, paradoxically when we conceded a goal. From this point of view, the team has competed against players of Milan’s caliber.

“The boys are on track and that’s nice. For this reason we are sorry for those moments of inattention which cost us dearly.

“Then, in addition to the mistakes, there are times when you just don’t like it. The third goal was also a lucky rebound. Jovic is reborn when he sees us, he always scores goals.”
