GdS: Analysing the referee’s performance in Milan vs. Juventus – key events

By Isak Möller -

Daniele Orsato was the referee in charge of AC Milan’s 2-0 win against Juventus last night. Although there were a few situations that raised questions, the experienced referee ultimately handled the game well.

Milan wanted a penalty in the first half as Vlahovic made a movement with his arm, even though it was close to his body. It’s a situation that has sparked debate and that isn’t easy to interpret, as Gazzetta Dello Sport highlight (via SempreMilan).

Based on the position which, again, was close to the body, Orsato and VAR did well not to award a penalty against Vlahovic. However, the fact that he actively pushed his arm slightly out to block the ball has raised some questions regarding the rules.

Just before Milan’s corner that led to the opener, Hernandez committed a foul on Cuadrado and it should have been penalised. In the second half, Bremer got the ball on his hand but he actually retracted it (plus it was close to the body), making it non-punishable.

  1. Vlahovic knew it himself that he deserved a penalty called against his handball so he gifted us the assist on the second goal.
