GdS: Bonera coach and Camarda central – the latest on the Milan U23 plan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are still wanted to set up an U23 side for next season but there are some doubts that must first be resolved, according to a report.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), for Milan the idea of creating the U23 team remains, and they are trying to get things in place in the event that they are able to register one in time for 2024-25.

First, though, the club need to wait until the end of the season to see what the availability is. A spot in Serie C must be freed up by a side failing to register, something that usually happens due to financial difficulties or other irregularities.

Then, the Rossoneri must also agree somewhere to play, with the Stadio Ernesto Breda mentioned as a possible destination. Once those things are in place, a final decision would come. The B-Team could be registered immediately or it might be from 2025.

Meanwhile, the plan is for Francesco Camarda to be one of the pillars of the team and there is the possibility that Daniele Bonera – who is currently in Pioli’s staff and is highly regarded – would be the head coach, rather than Ignazio Abate who is perhaps the most obvious choice.

  1. A U-23 Team in the Serie C could prove to be critical to both retain young players and develop them further. Bonera seems the right guy. Long overdue! Get it done, I think.
