GdS: Conceicao wants Milan move – previous Inter links not a factor

By Oliver Fisher -

Sergio Conceicao would have no problems joining AC Milan from Porto despite his past with Inter and Lazio, according to a report.

Milan are back on the field this evening this evening against Genoa, but all attention seems to be on the issue of who will be the next head coach given that Stefano Pioli seems almost certain to be leaving.

Luca Bianchin of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera) speaks about Conceicao specifically, writing that he would have remained at Porto but the presidential elections changed the plans. He is on Milan’s list of potential Pioli replacements.

The former Lazio and Inter player had signed a contract which would have come into effect had Pinto Da Costa remained as the president, but it was André Villas-Boas who won and that changed the plans.

A meeting with the new president is scheduled for tomorrow, but it is common knowledge that there is a bilateral clause in the agreement which means that it can be terminated if Conceicao wants.

The widespread feeling is that he is now likely to move on from Porto. Conceicao wants Milan and Bianchin is even clearer: “If he could he would sign tomorrow, the rivalry as a former Inter player wouldn’t be a problem: ambition weighs much more.”

  1. We had a life long inter fan as a coach for the last 5 years. Conceicao was at inter for a cup of coffee. Same with Motta.
Only hiring Zanetti, Materazzi or Bergomi would be worse than Pioli when it comes to having inter connections
