GdS: Milan hope to boost summer spending power by €32m by selling duo

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management are planning their strategy in view of the summer transfer window and part of their planning depends on the budget available, which they hope will be boosted with sales.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes how the sale of a big name like Theo Hernandez or Rafael Leao – who are in the sights of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain respectively – cannot be fully ruled out.

However, it is from a Belgian duo that Geoffrey Moncada hopes to obtain more funds with which to work on strengthening the squad, and the biggest investment planned is on a new centre-forward for the future.

Atalanta and Bologna will have to make decisions on Charles De Ketelaere and Alexis Saelemaekers in the coming weeks and months, given both forwards are there on loan deals that include an option to buy.

De Ketelaere has massively improved in Bergamo and for Atalanta it may be logical to spend the €22m plus bonuses that the option stipulates they must pay to sign him permanently as per the agreement with Milan.

Then, they could put their trust in him for another season – hopefully with Champions League qualification secured – and then they may well end up selling him on for a capital gain, as seems to be the way of La Dea.

The Saelemaekers issue is more fluid because he is yet to fully nail down a starting spot. Thus, Bologna must decide whether to pay the sum – close to €10m – to sign him permanently. Just as for Atalanta, getting a UCL spot would help.

  1. There’s deadwood coming back at the end of season – Origi and Ballo-Toure. I also don’t think Bologna will buy out Saelemaekers.

    1. The 3 or 4 times I’ve seen Saelemaekers in a Bologna shirt he’s been poor. His headless chicken impersonation against us, in a bid to impress, was a low point.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up accepting loan deals for the three of them again.
