GdS: Milan all-in for the Europa League – prize money for a new No.9

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are committed to giving the Europa League their full attention for the rest of this season and the prize money could prove crucial to their summer transfer activity.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), the Rossoneri are serious about trying to win the Europa League given they are now into the last 16 and have been drawn to face Slavia Praha, a tough but winnable tie.

Milan can only finish second at best in Serie A this season with Inter storming towards the title, and they are out of the Coppa Italia, so it makes sense to chase silverware in the form of the Europa League.

The desire to win the Europa League does not just come from a sporting perspective. Milan would be able to collect around €40m from winning the tournament, when all of the victories in the rounds leading to the final are taken into account.

That money can go towards signing a new striker, Milan’s main objective for the summer transfer window.

They will be looking to players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Olivier Giroud, as they have won the Europa League in the past and know how tough it can be. With teams like Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen in the mix, it will not be easy.

  1. We’ve beaten Liverpool in the UCL final too so beating them in the EL should be much easier. Consider it a done deal. So… Start thinking who should we use the money for.

    1. Exactly, Napoli beat Liverpool last year, we beat Napoli … therefore we should beat them no problem… in fact we should use our reserves for all the games in EL to make the tournament more challenging.
Who cares that Liverpool and Leverkusen are top the league now, or that the top 2 teams of Portugal are also in it….those are all flies to be squatted with a wave of hand.
