GdS: ‘It’s Sesko’ – Milan working on club record deal for RB Leipzig talent

By Ben Dixon -

Ahead of the summer mercato, AC Milan have been whittling down their shortlist for a new striker, and this morning, a report has emerged that the Rossoneri are ready to break their transfer record for a new star.

This season has been a preparation for change in many ways. Stefano Pioli will depart the club, and some of the veterans will end their time at the club, one of those players who will leave is Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has still produced for Milan this season, but investment into an heir has been anticipated for some time.

However, who that would be has been in the air for most of the year, but two candidates remained clear throughout – Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko. Bologna’s Dutchman was largely believed to be the preferred option, but with his price soaring and evaluations continuing that has now changed.

According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport (read below), the Diavolo are working to sign Sesko from Leipzig this summer, and the club see him as the ideal player to move forward. At 20 years old, he fits the age profile that the club wants to invest in, but he provides a goalscoring trait that matches those senior to him, so Milan will look to activate his release clause of €50 million.

With the Curva Sud protesting during Sunday’s game about the club’s direction, investing in talent like Sesko will be a fantastic starting step for the summer mercato and the start of the new era.

  1. Get him and if we can’t get him we should also be looking at Darwin Nunez if he’s genuinely unhappy at Liverpool. He would ball out in seria A

  2. Hopefully they learned from their mistakes last season and they close the deal quickly. We don’t need another two months of negotiations to hear at the end that the agent was too greedy so we are signing some jobless out of form guy in the last hours of the mercato.

  3. He has made 12-14 goals in bundesliga where someone said it’s a weak league in term of defense. But let’s see he will erupt to 20+ goals next season

    1. Sesko has scored double digita continuesly while in the Red Bull system. He has not been a consistent starter until the latter part of this season (because he is uo against Openda). Sesko has more league goals than Zirkzee, is younger and more of a target man which we need to replace Giroud

  4. Umm, so you are okay to pay 50mil plus salary for Sesko who scored around 13-15 goals but you were not okay to pay 7 mil salary for Thuram who also scored the same numbers and get him for free??

I mean okay it is good if we can sign him but free transfer market should also be done properly.

I am still hurt that we didn’t take that dude

    1. Thuram is good, but he’s wasteful and doesn’t exactly have a high football IQ. Inter could afford having him because they also have Lautaro who consistently competes for the top scorer title. So together, they make a perfect balance of power and speed.

Milan on the other hand need a different profile. While Zirkzee doesn’t exactly put Shevchenko’s numbers, he is very VERY active in the attacking build-up.

    2. Thuram strikes me as a different kind of player than Sesko. Sesko seems like a real no. 9, while Thuram seems to be more of a second striker. He needs to play off of Lautaro.

  5. I’ve been following this kid since he joined RB Salzburg, I was never impressed with what I saw. I mean he’s alright, but 40 million is hyperinflated.
You might as well put in an extra 10 million a technically capable target man like Zirkzee, or a high scorer like Gyokeres.
Alternatively, a smart move would be to just pay 17.5 million Euros for Guirassy.
In all cases, 40 million for Sesko is a rip off.

  6. Great talent but bundesliga is hit and miss, 50m is a big gamble if he doesn’t adapt. My pick is we go for Jonathan David from Lille on expiring contract. Lille was formally owned by Cardinale so he can get discount + he is cheaper but more proven. 30m should be enough. I would like for us to sign 2 strikers so use the remaining funds to bring icardi back to milan.
