Genoa manager Gilardino refuses to rule out Retegui return for Milan clash

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Genoa tomorrow evening and the Grifone could be without their star striker Mateo Retegui. However, manager Alberto Gilardino has not given up on a possible recovery in time for the game.

The Italian international is struggling with a knee injury and having scored five goals so far this season, his absence would be a blow. In addition to his goalscoring, his work rate is also extremely important and he’s not easy to defend against.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, as cited by Francesco Nasato, Genoa manager Gilardino provided an update on Retegui’s condition. He stated that they will try until the last minute, without risking the player.

“Retegui still has pain in his knee, but we’ll wait 24 hours to see if there is a possibility of recovery, without risking the rest of his season. Everyone’s desire is to see him on the pitch, but we need to be clear in our assessments,” he stated.

It will be Milan’s second away game in just three days and that has never happened to a Serie A top team before (see here). In short, it will be necessary for Stefano Pioli to make some rotation as well, with just one training session to prepare for the game.

    1. Yeah, me 2. Not only he was low cost but also scored for Italy and generally looked like a good bet. They decided to wait the entire transfer window and panic sign Jovic who wasn’t in shape for 2 years because he is unprofessional or better said – lazy.
