Kjaer limps off during Denmark-Switzerland – updates from the defender and his coach

By Oliver Fisher -

There was some worry regarding the condition of Simon Kjaer after he came off during Denmark’s game last night, but some reassuring words have since arrived.

As MilanNews recalls, last night Denmark and Switzerland drew 0-0 in a friendly. Kjaer played from the first minute, but in the 66th minute he was forced to leave the pitch due to a muscle problem, the extent of which will be assessed in the next few hours with some instrumental tests.

After the match, Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand gave a brief update on the condition of the central defender and suggested that it is not anything to be too worried about.

“Kjaer felt something in the back of his thigh. I don’t think it’s anything serious, but we don’t know exactly yet. If there was the slightest problem he won’t play the next match against the Faroe Islands [on Tuesday],” he said.

Kjaer himself also gave an update on how he is feeling during an interview after the game with the Danish source TV2.

“I felt a bit of discomfort and I just wanted to be on the safe side. We are late in the season, so we also try to think a little ahead and prefer not to take risks. If it had been a qualifying match or the European Championship I wouldn’t have come out,” he said.

Milan will hope that it really isn’t a serious issue, especially given that Ismael Bennacer has already come back early with a muscle tweak and Mike Maignan missed France’s game against Germany last night.
