Repubblica: Pioli shows dejection by skipping press conference after Inter loss

By Oliver Fisher -

It was a difficult night for AC Milan last night as they watched city rivals Inter celebrate the Scudetto on the San Siro pitch, and it seems Stefano Pioli just wanted it all to be over with.

As La Reppublica writes today, Pioli knew how much was resting on the game to try and restore a bit of pride to Milan’s season, yet he got the starting line-up wrong and now his experience at Milan seems to be almost certainly over.

Pioli, in this long and painful final campaign of his AC Milan tenure, also seemed to be the only one to always face criticism, forced by the demands of the role, which impose the ritual of interviews after every defeat, but still always ready to respond.

This time, however, he did something new and certainly unusual: struck by obvious disappointment, he skipped the post-match press conference , limiting himself to speaking to television (DAZN) and radio (Radiorai), who are the owners of the broadcasting rights.

Here he expressed a vague intention to remain on the Rossoneri bench until his contract expires (2025), stating: “I felt before that Simone Inzaghi, 14 months ago, seemed in difficulty and then instead he did everything he did.

“I’m fine, I’m working well and I think the team has room for improvement. We need to finish the season in the best possible way, then the evaluations will be made.”

Further confirmation arrived this morning that Pioli will be sacked by Milan once the season ends, and work is currently ongoing to identify the right replacement. However, the way things are ending is not how anyone wanted.

    1. How about something like “For moral reason, I resign.”? That would be something that a person with actual morals and a spine would say and do. Pioli on the other hand lacks both.

Sad truth is, Milan next coach will be exactly the same spineless yes-man like Pioli, we can only hope that it will be a more competent one at least.

      1. It’s clear that kids like you don’t understand how professional works and thinks everything can be solved by emotion lol.

Saying Pioli is spineless and should say he will resign on broadcast will only complicated the players moral who just lost and see their rival celebrated the scudetto at home and also the management who’s i doubt already found Pioli’s replacement.

That’s why Pioli doesn’t say he would resign because he wants to finish the season professionally. After the season ends, he will give the responsibility back to the management and let them decide if they gonna sacked him because he can’t fulfill all the target goals or keep him for another season because he still have 1 year contract.

        1. Normally I would agree, but at this point i’d say it makes absolutely no difference if he stays or goes. You can tell by the players’ body language that they just aren’t in it anymore.

Feels like we’re just gonna limp towards the finish line.

      2. Spineless and no moral… boy.. sometimes I think the forum is filled with 15y-olds, then I realize probably half of the people are way over their 30s and that makes me sad.
