Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has discussed the ‘Champions League DNA’ that AC Milan possess but still thinks that Inter are the favourites for the EuroDerby.
Speaking during an interview at an Italian barbershop corporate event (via Milan News), Marchisio was asked about the upcoming two-legged Champions League semi-final between Milan and Inter.
It promises to be an extremely exciting and unpredictable affair but Marchisio thinks that Inter are the team with the most impressive squad of the two. That being said, Milan have undoubted pedigree in the tournament, a level of which Inter cannot claim to match.
“If I look at the squad and how it gets there on a physical level, I say Inter, but AC Milan have managed to eliminate Napoli from the Champions League and in three matches against the Azzurri in a few days they have never lost. Milan have the Champions League in their DNA, even if they have an inferior squad to Inter,” Marchisio said.
He also then explained that Milan seem to have the know-how in big games to get the result that they need, even if it is not always the prettiest way of playing football.
“However, they know how to play certain matches and they have a director like Maldini who knows about certain competitions and knows what to tell the team. There will be great pressure for both teams, but the important thing is that Italy will have a team in the Champions League final,” he said.
The first leg of the EuroDerby takes place on Wednesday night and AC Milan are the home team. A week later, Inter will be the home team for a tense second leg.
