Adli dejected after ‘mistakes’ cost Milan in the derby: “We feel very sorry”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were beaten 2-1 by Inter tonight in the Derby della Madonnina, and Yacine Adli admitted that mistakes were what ultimately let his side down.

Milan went into the game with a rather simple task: stop Inter winning in order to prevent them from capturing their 20th Scudetto in such a monumental game. Yet, they failed to achieve that objective just as they have every other this season.

Francesco Acerbi got the first goal with an easy header from a terribly marked set piece, and then Marcus Thuram doubled the advantage to make it 2-0 heading into the break.

Fikayo Tomori’s close range finish made it a tense finish – as did red cards for Theo Hernandez, Davide Calabria and Denzel Dumfries – but in the end Inter hung on to claim a victory and the league title.

After the defeat, Adli spoke to Milan TV about what was a difficult night and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

Were there some errors in the finer details?

“When you make mistakes like this you concede goals, we knew it and unfortunately we made mistakes again. This season we have conceded many goals from corners and we weren’t careful, when you don’t pay attention to the details at this level it’s tough. We tried, but unfortunately it’s not enough.”

Is it a youth proect?

“We have many young people in the team and we know that this project is long, not based on a year or two. We are a team that can still improve, but we are very sorry to have lost this match, very much.”

Now there is a season to finish…

“Yes, now we have to finish second and go back to working for our season, which is yet to end. We are very disappointed though, we tried and it wasn’t enough, we feel very sorry for the fans.”

  1. Actually Adli was probably the best Milan-player on the pitch when substituted. I’m not saying he was great but his passes were pretty much the only good thing about Milan’s play. And that really sums up how bad the others were.

And I do love his commitment on and off the pitch. He wanted to win. Clearly. Not sure if even half of the other players did. At least they didn’t look like that. E.g. the man walking and standing for 60mins at the halfway-line.

    1. Since our midfield is mostly made of average, slightly above average players, we might as well keep and try to develop the one who seems to be willing to fight for the badge.

  2. Gentleman player feel sorry for fans , unlike his coach that never feel sorry or admit mistake and keep throw blaming at others . If choose between sell adili or bennacer then better sell bennacer

    1. I agree. Benny’s decline is insane and Adli can only improve. Just look at the last corner-kick of the match FFS… Could it be any worse than that? And it was still probably one of the best corner-kicks Benny has ever delivered… That guy is finished.

  3. I like this player and his attitude. Total admiration for his passion and tenacity. I would like to see him wearing the captains arm band in the near future. Like several others, he’s been held back by Pioli for far too long and I hope he stays at ACM for several years.
    Forza ACM 24-25⭐⭐
