Mayor Sala confirms mission to convince Milan and Inter with San Siro plan

By Oliver Fisher -

Mayor Beppe Sala has confirmed that he is hoping to keep AC Milan and Inter at the San Siro by putting forward a renovation plan.

The Milanese edition of La Repubblica (via PianetaMilan) reported yesterday that a renovation project for San Siro will be presented on January 31st which will cost €300m and which would not force the two teams to find a new place to play during the time in which the works are ongoing.

It is a proposal which was signed by the Arco Associati studio and which was presented to Mayor Sala by the opposition. It includes a 75,000-seater stadium, thus ensuring the capacity remains fairly consistent, and the area around the stadium would become greener too.

Now, Sala has given a comment to the same newspaper and he confirmed that the idea is to try and convince the two teams to stay with their new proposal. His comments were relayed by MilanNews.

“Our number one objective is to try to protect San Siro and its historicity. We do not pretend that this is something that can be shared immediately but the spirit of that commission and of the work that will follow will be that to convince the teams to re-evaluate this hypothesis,” he said.

“If there is a solution that allows them to continue playing, perhaps losing very little capacity, it should be examined with great interest.”

As a reminder, Milan’s plan is to build in San Donato which is in the south-east of the city, and we gave an update on our Substack late last year.

  1. Hahah, you are going to end up with a block of useless abandoned concrete as ot stands.

Open hour mind, gove Milan and Inter a ein option to compete, you as a mayor mat lose some direct revenue which you will make up 5 X at least by revitilizing the area and benefiting from the business and tourists it will attract.

This middle age philosophy I am afraid will leave you with Detroit scenario

  2. “Stay here and keep paying us rent please…. oh and after the 300mil in renovations, we’ll ask for higher rent. You’re welcome!” No Thank You.

Problem is Gerry hasn’t gotten far with the San Donato project either. SOOO much bureaucracy.

Why does this country do everything backwards?

    1. Brain drain is what some people keep saying. Makes sense to me…

But you hit the nail on the head, the mafia has gone into politics and extorts the hell out of business.
