MN: Milan a la Marseillaise – Giroud, Theo and Adli sends a message in Roma win

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan beat Roma 3-1 at San Siro last night, and they were able to rely on the contributions of three French players in the victory.

MilanNews writes how the game between Milan and Roma was decided by goals from Yacine Adli, Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez, each of whom put in great performances too.

The first note of merit goes to Giroud, because at the start of every transfer window there is talk about how he needs replacing or at the very least a deputy must be signed, while there are complaints about his performance levels.

Looking at the numbers, he is currently one of the best players in the league with 10 goals and six assists in the league alone. At 37 years of age he reached double figures in league goals for the third consecutive year.

He certainly needs time to breathe and of course a long-term No.9 must still be signed, but his header for the second goal and that flick for Theo shows he is still the man for the big occasions.

Speaking of Theo, he also came under fire for performances below expectations compared to what Milan fans have become used t. However, since he became available as a central defender, his attitude has changed.

The full-back has taken a further step forward and his maturation was evident last night, when he returned to playing on the flank. He provided concentration in both phases, useful overlaps and a goal.

Then we come to Adli, a player who demonstrated a desire to work hard even when he was not used at all by Stefano Pioli, as happened throughout last season. This year however, the Rossoneri coach has used him in a deeper role and he is growing game by game.

Yesterday he scored his first goal for the club and he celebrated enthusiastically in front of the adoring fans at San Siro, yet it is his performance overall which was very positive. With Ismael Bennacer absent until mid-February it is essential that Adli takes over.

In Milan-Roma, a team scored with three different French players in a single match for the first time in Serie A history. Milan, a la  Marseillaise.
