MN: Returning duo and a €30m target – Milan reflecting on plan for the defence

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been linked with a number of different targets for the defensive department since the window opened, and an update has arrived regarding the strategy.

According to what Pietro Mazzara has reported in his column for MilanNews, the management are ‘looking carefully’ at how to move and which opportunities to potentially try and pursue in the last couple of weeks of the window.

Alessandro Buongiorno is a profile that is very popular among the directors, but if Torino are not open to the sale for a total figure lower than €30m, then he remains a target that will be spoken about more in view of the summer rather than right not.

Mazzara adds that Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori will be available again within three to four weeks, which is something that might well influence the decision to invest in January.

The German is the one most advanced in his recovery, then the Englishman will follow, then of course Pierre Kalulu. Therefore it is logical and legitimate that the management are also evaluating the numerical aspect of the central defenders available to Stefano Pioli.

If the conditions are right then action will be taken, but there is certainly not a desire to force anything or rush into making the wrong purchase.

  1. I’ll be glad when the window is closed. We are not signing a centre back – it’s just not going to happen.

Loan in a striker and shut the books.

  2. I’m not commenting on transfers any more.

You know my thoughts. I’ll only comment on ones I agree with. So about 1 in every 100 (I’m joking).

  3. every mercato same stories same rumours nothing is going to happen!
theyre happy with Gabbias performance because he played one good game and the back up is Simic!

    Stingy owners..

  4. @milanista221, So you mean they should be crying at gabbia’s performance???

We currently have kjaer, gabbia, terra and even Theo sometimes as CB, soon we’ll have thiaw, tomori and kalulu back, why do you think a CB is our priority now when we have other holes to fill up?

    1. Kjaer will likely leave in the summer. Gabbia, lets face it, will probably get loaned out. Kalulu hadn’t impressed at CB since the Scudetto year – we don’t even know what shape he’ll come back in. Terra isn’t a natural CB.

      So…………

  5. Just take over Amrabats loan with option to buy.
    It’s a risk free idea
He’s not settled at UTD so it’s possible

That’s all we need in January

  6. Realistically if we get a new CB , and everyone else becomes fit, then departures would be needed.

I think now the pressing areas are DM and perhaps ST

  7. Buongiorno is 10-15m kind of player, with 30m a great spt dir (Uncle Faster/ Leonardo/ Maldini) can bring us Scalvini/ Sule/ Varane kind of player.
btw Mancini of Roma can be good idea i think, look at Kjaer/ Acerbi how he play & how much they spend

  8. I think Milan need Buongiarno next summer to replace Kjaer. Then I hope Gabbia will remain in the team as CB as well as Kalulu who will play more as right back. Milan can let Florenzi go. But, Milan need a better back up for Reijnders and let Pobega go. Musah also can play in this position. Then Milan need a trequertista and a striker.
