MN: Why Milan are facing Genoa on Saturday evening instead of Sunday

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan haven’t had much luck with the schedule, taking on Genoa tomorrow evening just three days after the clash against Borussia Dortmund. Furthermore, it’s the final of seven games in just 22 days.

Since the schedule was revealed, many have questioned the decision and it is indeed a very odd one. Milan only have one training session to prepare for the game (today) and it’s a difficult situation for Stefano Pioli.

As highlighted by MilanNews, the unfortunate scheduling is due to the TV rights regulations and guidelines. The likes of Atalanta, Roma and Fiorentina all played in Europe on Thursday evening and thus must play on the Sunday.

This normally wouldn’t be a problem, but this round in the league those three teams will face Lazio, Cagliari and Napoli respectively. Therefore, there weren’t many slots left for Inter, Milan and Juventus.

For example, Napoli played their UCL clash on Tuesday and thus could have played on Saturday. However, given that they are facing Fiorentina, the game needs to be on Sunday. The situation is the same for Lazio, taking on Atalanta.

  1. Lies, even if they dont want Milan to play at the same time as any of these teams there are 4 slots on sundays. 12:30, 15:00 , 18:00, and 20:45. This excuse does not hold.
