Pioli believes it was ‘important’ to win ‘by a large margin’ against Sampdoria – video

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli believes it was important to not only win against Sampdoria but to do so in a convincing manner.

Milan responded superbly to their Champions League disappointment in midweek by putting five goals past a sorry Samp team at San Siro on Saturday night, with Olivier Giroud getting a hat-trick.

Pioli gave an interview to Milan TV at the end of the match against Sampdoria to reflect on a job well done, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

“It was important that we won and did so by a large margin. It’s only the first game, now we have to do well in the next ones,” he said.

“I coach a strong team and then you can also lose. The team have technical skills and character. The disappointment we suffered in the Champions League is strong and will not go away with this match.

“It will be a difficult finish to the season, especially the game against Juventus. Now however, we need to recover energy to face this season finale in the best possible way. In sport, only if you believe only in your abilities and qualities is it easier to obtain certain results. You can’t win everything.

“We’ve had ups and downs. The fans have only had ups, they support us above all in delicate and difficult moments. Of course they will also be there in Turin, there’s no doubt.”
