Reijnders happy with choice to join Milan and ‘magical atmosphere’ of San Siro

By Oliver Fisher -

Tijjani Reijnders has insisted that he made the ‘right choice’ by deciding to join AC Milan during the last summer transfer window, speaking about his time at the club so far.

After the club-record sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United, one of the tasks that the Milan management had last summer was to rebuild the midfield and Reijnders was among the names who arrived.

The Dutchman joined on a long-term deal from AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie, joining Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yunus Musah as new reinforcements for the department, as well as the existing options like Ismael Bennacer and Yacine Adli.

It will be a first season without a trophy for Reijnders, but on a personal note it has been successful as he has established himself as a pillar of both the Milan side and the Dutch national team.

Interviewed by NPO 3 TV, a Dutch YouTube channel, Reijnders commented on his choice to join Milan and the atmosphere at San Siro.

Milan are a club with Dutch legends…

“When I saw the list of former players, I immediately thought I had to give my best.”

What is San Siro?

“It’s a magical atmosphere, the fans come to support you, but I don’t feel the pressure, just a lot of noise.”

Why did you choose Milan?

“Yes, I talked about it with my father. First you start at AZ, then you get to a top club. When Milan called me, I hadn’t planned anything, but it happened so quickly and I was quick to adapt. Sometimes I look back and think, ‘I did well to take this step’.”
