Relevo: Milan were willing to pay €4m plus salary to loan Sevilla striker

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan were linked with several strikers on deadline day and ended up securing the services of Luka Jovic. Before the Serbian, they made an attempt for Sevilla man Rafa Mir and were willing to pay a decent amount.

After dropping their pursuit of Mehdi Taremi, who was the No.1 target for the attack, Milan pursued several leads before eventually signing Jovic. Rafa Mir and Patson Daka were both concrete options, but the Rossoneri were unsuccessful for both.

According to Sergio Santos of Relevo, Milan were in advanced talks with Sevilla and offered to pay €4m for the loan, as well as Mir’s entire salary. Their idea was also to include an option to buy valued at €17m.

Sevilla were willing to accept the offer, per the report, but wanted to find a replacement first and there wasn’t enough time to do so. The Rossoneri then abandoned the operation and accelerated for Jovic instead. The latter has joined them on a one-year contract with the option for another year.

  1. Jovic is a very talented and a complete striker. If he can finally mature and get his head on straight he’d be a great addition to the team.
Hopefully that happens this season and he stays for several more years.
Also, Sevilla still end up signing a striker yesterday in Mariano Diaz.

    1. I think Mariano Diaz is replacement for Papu Gomez that leave Sevilla. So if they let Mir leave they still need to buy another striker, which is hard with such limited time.

  2. At least Jovic has the potential for goals hidden somewhere DEEP within him. Hopefully his attitude is dramatically different to that at Fiorentina.

Also he’s not new to Serie A so his adjustment should be quick. Whereas Mir is a complete mystery with not a lot of goals to his name…

Lesser of all the evils I suppose.

  3. At least Jović will cost nothing. I don’t find him any more useful than this guy would be but at least it wasn’t a super bad deal like this one would be…
