Ac Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli spoke to La Repubblica ahead of this weekend Milan derby.

Romagnoli on the Derby “Inter-Milan is a direct encounter for the Champions League spots, big responsibilities give me more motivation than pressure. I want to play for many years here and win.”

Romagnoli on his contract extension: “My contract extension was a logical decision. I am fine with my teammates, with Gattuso and with the fans. Receiving offers from the Premier League is a pleasure but here, I feel home.”

Romagnoli on the season’s goals: “I made my debut in Serie A against Milan, perhaps it was my destiny. Milan will return to winning again, it’s a solid club that will fight for the Champions League and to go far in the Europa League.”

Romagnoli on changes in ownership, and leadership: “What has changed? First the ownership was exposed to many risks and rumors, now there is the will to invest. Maldini and Leonardo transmit serenity and know the Milan world. I want to play the Champions League as soon as possible with Milan.”

Romagnoli on the excitement for the derby: “This is the most technical derby in the last years. Inter have more experience and play CL football, we have more ambitions compared to last season. We are little behind in the standings, we have to get used to staying as high as possible in the table.”

Romagnoli on Gattuso: “Gattuso encourages us to not be satisfied, we have faith in him. He has always been on our side. We have to play our game, playing the ball from the back and conceding as much space as possible.”

Romagnoli on Higuain and Icardi: “Icardi and Higuain are among the best in the world but Higuain has scored more goals. Icardi in the box is at home, it should be prohibited to get distracted on crosses to Icardi.”
