Sky journalist expects Pioli to ‘rotate’ vs. Lazio: “A complete group at his disposal”

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan squad were back in training at Milanello today as they begin preparing for the trip to face Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday night.

Milan are once again in need of a win to snap a negative string of results which has seen them lose 4-2 to Monza, 3-2 against Stade Rennais and most recently draw 1-1 with Atalanta at San Siro.

They will do so in the capital against a Lazio side who find themselves struggling this season after finishing second in the league last season. They are currently in eighth, with Napoli breathing down their neck at three points behind plus a game in hand.

While waiting for more specific updates from the pre-Lazio training sessions, the expectation is that Fikayo Tomori will return to contention after a couple of months out due to a muscle problem he sustained against Salernitana before Christmas.

Speaking during an update for Sky, journalist Emanuele Baiocchini took stock of the current issues at Milan in view of the game in the capital and what Stefano Pioli’s choices might be.

“Yesterday was a day of rest granted by Pioli to the team. Today, however, Milan return to training to begin preparing for the difficult away match on Friday evening at the Olimpico against Lazio,” he said (via MilanNews)

“It is a Lazio that lost yesterday, and one that will clearly need to score points on Friday against Milan, but Milan also wants to show consistency in their performances.

“Pioli will certainly work on the defence this week, he will continue to try to lock down the department because – except in the year of the Scudetto win – Milan are a team that has always been very attacking due to Pioli’s playing style, they have also conceded many goals, especially this season.

“The number of goals conceded is 32, they are the tenth-best defence in the league, considering the current position in the table is not the best, but it must also be stated that among the pros that the Diavolo have is the second-best attack in the league.

“Against Lazio Pioli will have to rotate his men a bit, because the emergency has finally been resolved and will have a complete group at his disposal.”

  1. Hope we don’t “rotate” 3 points away like last time…. fml…. Our bench needs to be better, and this isn’t even on Pioli, it’s on them.
