Tuttosport: Duo could return to Milan as squad revamp is on the cards

By Isak Möller -

According to Tuttosport this morning (via Milanlive.it), there is a real possibility that both Pepe Reina and Ricardo Rodriguez could return to AC Milan and stay for next season. However, it depends on a few things.

As for the goalkeeper, the future is inevitably tied to Gigio Donnarumma. The latter seems destined to leave the club this summer, as his contract expires in 2021, and thus there would be space for Reina.

Most likely, Milan would then focus on the youngster Alessandro Plizzari, who has done very well during his loan spell at Livorno. Reina’s contract doesn’t expire until 2022 and for the 20-year-old, he could make the situation less traumatic.

The situation of Rodriguez, on the other hand, is a bit different. Should the Rossoneri decide to limit the spending, then the Swiss international’s return could be a good option, provided that he would accept a role as backup for Theo Hernandez.

With the possible qualification for next season’s Europa League, there would be more space for Rodriguez. Then again, it remains to be seen if the season will be finished or cancelled.
