What Inter need to win the league against AC Milan after Udinese comeback

By Oliver Fisher -

At half-time it looked like Inter’s dream of winning the Scudetto against AC Milan was fading, but their second-half comeback means it remains a possibility.

As Calciomercato.com write, Inter would need to be 16 points ahead of Milan after the derby on April 22 given that there will be five games left and head-to-head no longer matters, due to there being a play-off in the event of teams finishing on level points.

The results of the next round, the 32nd, will be decisive, in which Milan will visit Sassuolo and in which Inter will host Cagliari at San Siro. If at the end of the day Inter are at least 13 points ahead of Milan then they would seal the Scudetto in the derby if they win.

Even a draw in the derby could be enough for Inter based on the results of the next round. If Milan lost or drew against Sassuolo and Inter won against Cagliari they would go to +16 or +17, an advantage that would remain unchanged with only 15 points available with a draw in the derby.

A smentioned, with ‘only’ a 15-point gap to Milan – even with an advantage in head-to-head – Inter would still not be champions. From 2023, in the event of a tie on points, a Scudetto play-off will be played.
