CorSport: Milan watching as Napoli prepare €40m bid for Torino captain

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan have been intrigued by the prospect of signing Alessandro Buongiorno and made several attempts during the January mercato. However, they were unsuccessful. As a result, they now could risk losing him to a rival.

In the winter mercato, Milan tried, tried, and tried again for the Torino star, but Urbano Cairo, the club’s president, refused to let the defender leave in January without a substantial bump on his price, which the Rossoneri would not pay.

The central defender was presented a contract by the Diavolo, and whilst nothing was signed, it was not a rejection of the club, but rather a rejection to go behind the back of the club he loves and captains.

This could come back to haunt Milan, though, with Corriere dello Sport (via SempreInter) reporting that Napoli are now attempting to beat the Rossoneri and Inter to the 24-year-old, with Aurelio De Laurentiis open to offering €40 million in the upcoming months, a fee that would have landed him in January.

Given Tottenham Hotspur have also joined the race for the youngster, the Diavolo must look to secure him soon, or they run the risk of being left red-faced about a player they were once in the driving seat for.

    1. Bang for the buck. Especially in defense.

The only position I see them spending 40 million on is upfront.

  1. Amazing how all these clubs in such a worse financial state than us can afford the players we so desperately want…

We need three big signings…CB, no6 and strikers

At this rate Pioli will go to Napoli and find a better squad.

  2. It’s embarrassing that we don’t think 40m is a fair price for a player like him…..young, knows the league, will be an Italy international for years to come

  3. Saw him vs Bologna today. Not sure what the fuss really is about. Also saw him in other games….also didn’t get the hype. 🤷‍♂️
Not saying he isn’t good (he is), just not exceptional imo
Imo, Califiori can play DM as well as CB so why not him. Two birds, one stone. Plus Posch at right back 🤷‍♂️
I see we keep going for the media hype players that drives up the price when there are other gems right there as well
Also if you want someone with relative experience and probably for much cheaper the go for Masina of Torino.
Hopefully by putting this in the comments the algorithm might spit out these names in future articles LMAO 😂

  4. If it were me I’d go to Atalanta and as for a deal on Scalvini, Koopmeiners and Scamacca…admittedly I’m in fantasy land but all three of those improve our three weakest areas considerably. Chelsea, arsenal and United are all looking for strikers so I seriously doubt we are getting Zirkzee, Sesko or our other top targets. Jonathan David maybe. I’ve always liked Scamacca and think he’d be good for us….
