Since arriving from Lille in 2021, Mike Maignan has struggled with several injuries and AC Milan are now evaluating the future. According to a report, instead of renewing the contract, they could opt to sell the goalkeeper.
Maignan has been a very important player for Milan in recent years, saving them on many occasions, but he’s also been held back by various injuries. Furthermore, this season, he has struggled to find consistency in his performances when fit.
As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, Maignan has missed 39 games for the Rossoneri due to injury. This is practically an entire season and understandably so, the management is not too pleased with this record.
Therefore, with contract negotiations currently ongoing and with the goalkeeper asking for a high salary, Milan could evaluate the sale this summer instead. Several clubs have expressed an interest and the Rossoneri could likely fetch a decent sum of cash.
In the meantime, with Maignan currently out injured, Marco Sportiello will guard the Milan goal and he did really well against Juventus. Some would argue that it was better than what we have seen from the Frenchman this season.
He was incredible one year ago, a big reason why we went to UCL semi finals, especially against Napoli. Maybe we should fix this injury situation first. It’s not only him.
The problem is, his contract runs out at 2026. So if we see the situation first and he doesn’t renew, next year he will only have one year left on his contract and we lose big ground for negotiating with other team for sale.
This season he really struggle for consistency. When he got some runs of matches, he made many mistakes (especially from close angle) that should not happen for a keeper his calibre and his form dropped. A lot. It started last season tbh, after his injury with national team he never recover his best.
Add to that his demand of €7-8m per year, which at the moment is hard to justify… With his struggling form and injury record.
Imo if he is willing to renew for around €5-6m after bonus, renew him. If not, sell him to highest bidder with minimum bid of 40-50m and just buy a new starting GK.
5ml-6ml is too much for injury prone player i believe 35ml is more than enough
Exactly I don’t think he is injury prone, Milan has a problem with injuries on a whole. Even Ibrahimovic complain about this problem while he was still playing.
Depends on what we can get for him and what he asks to extend. I have nothing against him but we shouldn’t marry ourselves to him either.
He has missed something like 39-40 games since he joined. That’s over an entire season. That’s just bonkers. 7-8 mil for that fitness form is madness.
He is a great GK and makes fantastic reaction saves. His PK form is another story. i’d love to keep him at reasonable numbers as his presence in the locker room and in the box is valuable.
But if he pushes to leave then i have no qualms about the club offloading him.
I know that our injury records are simply appalling as a whole, but concerning particularly Maignan, considering his position, it’s something quite absurd. IMHO we should offload him.
Definitely he will stay and leave for free when his contract expire. Marotta already wait for him.
