CM: A €200m increase – the updated cost of Milan’s San Donato project

By Ben Dixon -

By all accounts, September is a vital month for AC Milan’s home. They are expected to decide the future of San Siro, and in turn, a decision about San Donato. Today, the cost of the latter has been revealed.

With Milan and Inter in possession of WeBuild’s plans for their San Siro renovations, and meetings pencilled in for this month, there should be some updates on the stadium situation soon.

At present, the knowledge of the situation is limited. The Rossoneri have, very publically, stated they intend to move to San Donato, and they see it as a step forward. However, the fact they have listened to plans about San Siro suggests they may not be 100% on the idea, at least not yet.

As Calciomercato.com report, the WeBuild plans ‘seem to convince’ both clubs, but they are both continuing to keep their own projects alive. Moving ahead with the latter option, though, adds significant costs.

It was reported that the San Siro renovation could cost around €300-400 million, split between both clubs, and it could result in them owning the stadium, or getting a 90-year lease. However, it would be much, much more to start their own project, and there would be no halving.

Initially, the project was expected to cost around €950m, but the report now suggests it could cost €1.28 billion. A big bill is expected in either scenario, but with a move set to cost €1b more, is it worth it, this is what the management now must decide.
