AC Milan have the possibility of playing a ‘home’ game in the 2025-26 Coppa Italia final, if they were to make it that far.
According to ANSA (via MilanNews), league sources have highlighted an issue with playing the game in Rome at the Stadio Olimpico next year because of tennis at the Foro Italico, usually held during the second week of May.
Some Serie A presidents, given the impossibility of finding alternative dates, are considering asking the Assembly to move the 2026 Coppa Italia final from Rome to Milan, more specifically San Siro.
On Friday, after it emerged that the Rome derby clashed with the final of the international tennis tournament following the release of Serie A fixtures, Diego Nepi – the CEO of Sport e Salute – commented: ‘There is no system, there was a lack of planning’.
Deja vu?
Milan have not won the Coppa Italia since 2002-03, but there is a rather interesting precedent in the sense that they lifted the trophy at San Siro.
The match was played over two legs on 20 May and 31 May 2003, with the first leg being at the Olimpico (a 4-1 win for the Rossoneri) and the return leg in Milano (a 2-2 draw).
The Diavolo reached the cup final in the season that has just ended, but they were beaten 1-0 by Bologna in the capital, continuing a torturous run in the competition.
