A climate of distrust: Conceicao appeals for divided AC Milan to unite

AC Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao has appealed for a collective sense of unity, spurred on by the club’s supporters.

It has been a rollercoaster season for Milan already, with Paulo Fonseca having been sacked after 24 games in charge and replaced by his compatriot. A trophy win in Saudi Arabia came in the middle of very patchy league form, which sees them sit eighth in the table.

A negative mood

While waiting for the next game against Girona, you should check out 1Win Korea. However, it is important to get up to speed and to realise why fans aren’t feeling too positive at the moment.

It can be argued that Milan’s problems stretch further back than this season and last, with the three head coaches (Stefano Pioli, in addition to Fonseca and Conceicao) all encountering the same frustrating problems.

There are 13 days left until the end of the winter mercato so there is still time, though the fact that Conceicao some friends in confidence that this is the team with the least character and desire to win that he has ever coached in his career says how much work is to be done.

At the moment, Milan have an average points per game of 1.55 in the league which would mean 59 points as the final total, if repeated for the rest of the season. It is a figure that, looking at the final standings of the last few seasons, would secure a finish of eighth at the highest.

In the meantime, there continues to be a climate of protest too, with the AIMC and the Curva Sud making it known that they are unhappy with the ownership and the way that they are running the club at present.

Conceicao’s plea

Continuing on from that, Conceicao was asked about what he thinks that the mercato can bring and he instead used his response to send a message to the fans about the need for support.

“When I said that thing about the changes it wasn’t a criticism but a reality. Tomorrow we have 12-13 players from the first team, three goalkeepers, and three kids: Camarda, Zeroli and Bartesaghi.

“It’s also a message for the fans, the soul of the club: right now we are here, they have to support us, they have to be the twelfth man. Or rather, the first. Without them the club doesn’t exist. Without the soul of the fans the club doesn’t exist.

“I will do everything, the players will do everything, but we need their support. Tomorrow is very important, we are in an emergency and we need everyone: we all win, we all draw and we all lose. I’m not handsome, I’m not nice, that’s fine. But now I’m here.

“The players feel the atmosphere outside. It’s important to all get together. I had to say it, I feel it. I see too many divisions at a historic club. It’s Milan that loses, not me or the players. Milan fans start at one year old and are fans for life. In my opinion it’s very important.”
