Athletic: Milan and Barcelona keen on potential €470k deal for Aston Villa’s Chukwuemeka

AC Milan and Barcelona are both interested in signing talented Aston Villa forward Carney Chukwuemeka, according to a report.

The Athletic write how Chukwuemeka is being chased by both Milan and Barca, while Villa have tried and failed to extend the contract of the 18-year-old attacking midfielder since October. He is a product of Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Heath academy and won the U19 European Championship with England this summer.

Both the Rossoneri and Barca want Chukwuemeka but will not pay a significant fee for a player who is out of contract next summer, therefore not the €23.5m (£20m) rumoured. The teenager is available to discuss a move away for the 2023-24 season from January, with both the Serie A and LaLiga side confident of agreeing terms leaving a £400k (€470k) compensation fee to be paid.

The report adds that ‘everything points to the 18-year-old leaving’ because other clubs in Italy and Germany are monitoring the situation, but if he were to leave this summer then ‘it would require a significant offer’.

Villa are reluctant to let him leave for next to nothing next year too, especially given that he has been with them since he was 12, but for nine months they have tried to extend his contract and haven’t managed to.
