CorSport: Milan turn to Aston Villa starlet as Lille midfielder nears PSG move

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are ready to admit defeat in their pursuit of Renato Sanches but they already have an alternative lined up, a report claims.

As reported this morning by Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), it seems at the moment – based on sources close to the situation in France – that Milan’s first choice target for the midfield, Renato Sanches, is moving ever closer to joining Paris Saint-Germain.

Now, directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara must turn their heads towards other targets and they already have Aston Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka on their list of profiles that they are very much interested in.

Rather than being a signing guaranteed to boost the level of the midfield immediately, it would be a signing aimed more at the future and that is why the management are evaluating his characteristics and whether he can be a good substitute for the skill set foreseen in Sanches.

  1. Sanches was never first choice and Villa want silly money for Chukwuemeka, which isn’t going to happen because he has a year left on his contract.

  2. Are there any reputable sources for this rumour? I doubt it, he’s likely planning to move next year when he will be able to command higher wages.

    1. In the last 2-3 months we have propably been connected with 30+ players in the media and surely not even half of them has been real targets or even been of our interest to begin with so as much as this mercato has turned out as tedious as it has become its not really the clubs responsibility to act upon what the media might concoct and present as reality.
In the end i still believe we will get de ketelaere in the coming days and some other additions on top of that before the transfer window actually closes on september 1rst.

  3. The media keep insisting on Sanches to Milan just like they previously insist Botman to Milan. However, Maldini never make any move toward them, unlike his approach to CdK.

      1. That was last season before Kalulu emergence. The media are fueling speculation with past interest.

At March, Maldini told Ambrosini he no longer plan on spending for center-back due to emergence of Kalulu. At June, Maldini confirm that they were following Botman (refering to January), he didn’t say that he currently following Botman.

        1. you said ‘Maldini never make any move’, yet he did. Botman was still a target at the start of this mercato, he even waited for Milan to increase the offer.

  4. It seems like Elliot had never made something special in the mercato since the one of January 2021. However, since then, Pioli and his players have managed to finish 2nd in Serie A in 2020/2021, participate in the Champions League, and be champions the following season. It’s just unacceptable

  5. I think he’s a lot more likely than Sanches to be purchased, main problem appears to be that he asks for very high salaries. He apparently asked his club for £100000-per-week which I believe is a bit over 2.5million after taxes per year.

If we add a 10-15million purchase and agents fee, things start becoming very expensive very fast.
