AC Milan and Roma to pay tribute to Di Bartolomei in Australia friendly – the details

AC Milan and Roma will both wear patches on their shirts during the friendly on 31 May in Australia to remember the late and great Agostino Di Bartolomei.

As the official website reports, the friendly match between the Giallorossi and Rossoneri taking place on 31 May in Perth, Australia, will have a special meaning.

Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of his passing, Roma’s players will bear Agostino’s name on their shirts for the fixture at the Optus Stadium.

The tribute will be continued through a special patch, containing the words “AGO IERI, OGGI, SEMPRE” [AGO YESTERDAY, TODAY, ALWAYS], which will also feature on AC Milan’s shirts.

It is a fitting tribute by the two clubs to an extraordinary man and champion who left an indelible mark on every fan.

Di Bartolomei played as a midfielder or as a defender, in a sweeper role. He was known for his elegance on the ball and playmaking skills, and he is widely regarded as one of Roma’s greatest ever players.

In addition, he is regarded as one of the greatest Italian players never to play for Italy, having only ever been capped at U21 level.

He played for Milan from 1984-1987, scoring nine time in 88 appearances before departing for Cesena.
