The agent of Chelsea defender Malang Sarr has confirmed that AC Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara spoke to him about the idea of signing his client.
Milan were in the market for a new centre-back ahead of the January window earlier this year with names such as Sven Botman linked extensively, and Sarr is an option that was mentioned given his lack of playing time after joining Chelsea.
In the end a new central defender did not arrive despite Simon Kjaer’s season-ending injury as the management chose to trust Pierre Kalulu, and it proved to be a justified decision as Milan won the Scudetto conceding just two goals in their final 11 league games.
TMW got an exclusive interview with Federico Pastorello – the agent of Sarr among other clients – and he spoke about the past and future for the defender, revealing an anecdote involving the Rossoneri.
“He’s a boy I see doing very well in Italy. And he’s already been very close: an agreement with Torino, but while we were negotiating the Chelsea opportunity came up. That possibility was immediately seen by the boy as an incredible chance for his career and he seized it on the fly, I understand,” he said.
“But I repeat, for me the Italian league would be the ideal league for him and I won’t deny that Milan also followed him for a long time: I discussed him a lot with Massara and Maldini when his deal was expiring, at Milan he would have found an easier path than the one he had at Chelsea.
“He is a very intelligent boy tactically, left-footed, and he is good at playing in multiple positions too… he can play as a full-back in a back four or on the left of a back three. In terms of quality, he is very suited to in Serie A.
“He’s playing little at Monaco but they’re happy with him, we’ll see if they’ll let him leave as soon as offers arrive, but clearly there’s a bit of disappointment on the part of the boy, he would have liked to find more space by moving from Chelsea. There is a whole second part of the season, let’s see. We will work on it.”
