Albertini explains why Pobega and Tonali starting together is ‘a good sign’

Tommaso Pobega is expected to team up with Sandro Tonali in the midfield tandem for AC Milan’s clash against Sampdoria later today. It’s a positive sign not just for the Rossoneri but also the national team.

Following the 1-1 draw at Salzburg, Milan will be looking to get back to winning ways this evening. Stefano Pioli will make some changes to the starting XI, amid the tight schedule, and Tommaso Pobega is one of the reserves that will get the chance.

Ismael Bennacer will get some much-needed rest and this means that Milan’s midfield tandem for the evening will be Italian. Speaking to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), Demetrio Albertini explained why this is a very positive thing.

“It’s a good sign for Mancini, because Italians often find themselves in teams that don’t play to win. For Milan, on the other hand, it is positive for a sense of belonging. It’s true that some foreigners have shown that they can join a club for life, but with a group of Italians it’s easier to have a base on which to build,” he stated.

It remains to be seen if Pobega will assert himself tonight after some average performances of the bench this season. He will have to use his physicality against what is a strong Sampdoria midfield in that aspect.
