Criscitiello: Allegri ‘isn’t convinced he can continue’ at Milan – the reasons

Michele Criscitiello has claimed that Massimiliano Allegri is not convinced by the idea of continuing at AC Milan beyond this season.

Milan’s season has taken a rather negative turn in the past couple of months. After having a 24-game unbeaten run snapped by a defeat to Parma at San Siro, a run of four defeats in seven has followed, and the Rossoneri failed to score in all four of those losses.

Allegri decided to switch to a 4-3-3 on Saturday evening against Udinese, and the result was catastrophic. The away side – ironically using a 3-5-2 system – were devastating on the counter-attack and ran out deserved 3-0 winners in the end. Now, a top four spot is in real danger.

Allegri ‘not convinced’

Criscitiello published his weekly column for Sportitalia and he dedicated the entirety of it to Milan, who could be in line for yet another summer reset if his suspicions are to be believed.

“We need a corporate vision. Something new and different. Allegri has tried his best, but without players, it’s tough for everyone,” he said.

“He’s also to blame, as is Tare, who spent nearly €140m on half-players. However, corporate clarity is needed first and foremost , and you can’t continue with a two-faced ownership structure. If Furlani is in charge, it’s one thing; if Cardinale is in charge, it’s another. There’s too much confusion about roles and hierarchies.

“The clubs that work best are the lean ones. At Casa Milan, there are too many floors and too many offices. The chain of command is complex and rusty. The fact is that such an important club can’t continue for long. It needs football men.

“It’s sad to say, but Furlani and Cardinale are men of numbers and high finance. Milan’s mistakes this year have been numerous, and the sudden collapse, combined with the missed opportunities, cannot be justified by a simple ‘we couldn’t fight for the Scudetto’.

“You only had one competition, and you’re Milan. Of course you have to fight for the Scudetto. Your history and your glory dictate it. Too many players shouldn’t even be in this team at Milanello. Mediocre or finished.

“Enough with Leao, who is a constant losing bet. Congratulations to Modric for the champion he has been, but next year we need fresh talent. As we warned you a month ago, Allegri isn’t convinced he can continue without clarity and planning.

“The truth is that even at the club and the fans would gladly replace him. Reheated soup often tastes bland.”

  1. If Allegri is offered the Italy job I think he’ll take it. I’m sure he’ll want to do it at some point and this might be his ‘now or never’ moment. That would be true even if he still believes in the Milan project, but as we all know, the Milan project at best is very confusing and at worst isn’t actually a project.

However, if Italy or Madrid don’t materialise, we are definitely still his best option.

The club then has to decide if he’s our best option, and if we only scrape into the ULC that’s not a guaranteed ‘yes’.

I would rather he stayed than start another summer with a manager saga, but the football needs to improve, that’s for sure.

    1. IF he stays, they must give him the players he wants. Otherwise everyone will be disappointed – except maybe the guys who only look at the profit-numbers and don’t care about anything else.

  2. I don’t see him continuing if we don’t make top4. There are too many things to fix in this team and if management are not going to give him what he wants then dont expect him to continue. Whether him leaving or staying is good or bad only time will tell. Maybe afresh start with fresh ideas and a total different football philosophy is what’s needed…a De Zerbi that can help blend raw young talent into the team and reset completely, not a half heartedly approach…we need to get rid of deadwood legacy players that have been in the system for far too long to be open to a new way of doing things. A good player does not get bad overnight because of a system change, something else happened and maybe we need to move along some players that mo longer serve the project. And maybe we need to move away from this new trend of buying players way past their sell by date…a new fresh system with patience is what’s needed. Sentiment aside…

      1. Not surprised by that, de zerbi always slow in getting his team winning, you can’t expect immediate result with him while his defensive side is a problem. Tottenham pretty much seal their fate, I just wait until Tottenham relegated and divide their player with all the other clubs. Regardless, it seems we were back to banter era where we need to reset every season

        1. Yeah he was a weird choice as he’s the least ‘quick fix’ manager I can imagine.

I suspect they offered him the job because he was the biggest name and they don’t know what they’re doing. I suspect he took it because like Tudor he thought it would be easy to keep that squad of players up. The half dozen times I’ve watched them (including yesterday) they are a proper mess.

Fairly confident De Zerbi will be free in the summer

          1. Yeah this Boulden guy is an idiot who doesn’t know much – probably sits at home knowing football because of Fifa on his xbox…ignore the boy!

      2. That’s stupid. He has only coached a single match. And you are blaming him for being in relegation zone??

      3. Yeah, because he gets relegated everywhere he goes. Tottenham had reeled off ten wins in a row and seemed destined for European football, and then De Zerbi arrived, lost one game, and now they’re finished. Probably could have won the league if De Zerbi hadn’t arrived if we’re being honest.

    1. “Boulden

I wish fake fans like you would leave too but alas you love b*tching more”

      Well… That escalated pretty quickly, eh? 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
I wish we had more fans like you. 😂😂😂😂

  3. This crap journalist is only about clickbait titles and he supports Inter. He is a laughing stock in Italy, you might as well quote Cassano on team news, it will have the same weight.

  4. Accurate input by Criscitello on the state of ownership. Completely agree with him. If I were Max I would demand some guarantees otherwise I’d walk and that would make this idiot ownership look even worse which after the last season they can’t afford.

    1. Agree. Allthough I’m not the biggest fan of allegriball, the problem starts on top. We’ve been saying that eversince MM left and got replaced by paper pushers. There are so many managers on this team that nobody know who is who, or who is in charge . Allegri or not this team needs lean managment and like he said “football man”

    2. As long as Cardinale and Furlani running Acmilan it’s not going anywhere, sale the team to someone who loves football.
      Bring Maldini back.

  5. The only 2 new players that have looked like Milan quality are Rabiot and Modric. I’m not sure about Modric but Allegri def asked (and was almost denied) Rabiot. Everyone was could literally go in the summer and nothing would change about the quality of the team. We’re back to a revolution and we’re starting to look like Chelsea rather than Liverpool. No clear aims, no clear idea of the team and its identity. Just spending around $150 every year experimenting with combinations meanwhile Milan’s soul is thrown in the trash bin. So tired of this. After we lost the semi final in the champions league, we were two maybe 3 signings away from competing for major trophies and maybe even a double. Pulisic was a good add and Pavlović and that’s it lol (may be forgetting one oh I guess Tiji but they sold him as soon as they could). After firing Maldini they’ve made 5x as many mistakes as Maldini did. They obviously fired him b/c he was results based and they were profits based. I’ve been saying this and some people just don’t get it, Furlani HAS to go. If Redbird don’t make the correct changes to the C-suite team, they have to go as well, ASAP.

  6. Allegri not convinced. I’m not convinced on allegri again. 3-0 at home is embarrassing and unexeptable. Trying to play leao as a striker again. Why isn’t gimenez getting a start. Surely he’s fit enough now.
Allegri football is awful to watch and now we might lose out to Como or juve in the champs spots! Let him manage Italy.
