Angele: PSG and Man City wanted €50m Milan star but no serious offer arrived

By Oliver Fisher -

A journalist has revealed that both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain showed a strong interest in signing Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan.

Bennacer arrived at Milan from Empoli last summer for a fee of about €16million (as per all the major media outlets) and after a mixed start to his career at the San Siro, the Algerian has impressed greatly under coach Stefano Pioli, attracting interest from various clubs across Europe.

Two clubs who have been repeatedly linked by the French media are Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, with the latter’s ownership believed to be pushing for his signature at one point.

According to Vito Angele on Twitter, both the Premier League and the Ligue 1 club were interested in the 22-year-old, but PSG’s sporting director Leonardo couldn’t spend for budgetary reasons.

That is why he only attempted loans or low-paid transactions and there was no official offer for Bennacer, with nobody offering anything close to his €50m release clause.
