CM: Not only Enzo Fernandez – Argentina forward makes Milan feel further regret

By Oliver Fisher -

Another player is shining at the World Cup that AC Milan were interested in signing but chose not to concretely pursue, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com speak about Julian Alvarez, a player from the River Plate academy that Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni chose to bet on for their crucial final World Cup group stage game in which a win was needed to guarantee progression, and he did not disappoint.

Against Poland, he played as a striker and the second goal in a 2-0 win after slotting the feed of Enzo Fernandez – another player that Milan held talks over – into the top corner. There was certainly no regret for leaving out Lautaro Martinez after two tough games.

Manchester City swooped to sign Alvarez in January, leaving him with Los Millonarios until July, and the numbers since his permanent move to England are good: 20 appearances, 7 goals and 2 assists.

Milan and Juve had inquired to understand the feasibility of the operation, but now both sides can only look back with a sense of regret, a theme that is becoming quite familiar for the Rossoneri.

  1. The case of Enzo is very sad. They quit signing him because they wanted to pursue signing Renato. And they ende up with Vranckx. Really? This is so embarrassing.

  2. Yeah it made sense to invest in Giroud given is contribution to the team has a whole Origi on the other hand is bad has bag of garbage! And in Enzo yes he is a better player then Sanches and Vranckx but its not guaranteed that we would have the same impact in our team that he has had in Benfica but yeah from what is playing is gonna be one of the best midfielerds in the world!

  3. My theory here, Vrankx might just be as good Enzo Fernandez but we probably will never know, because Pioli would rather play Krunic than trust these young boys. The bitter truth here is, if we are actually going to build a team for the future, then Pioli might not be the best man for the job…. It’s ludicrous that Adli and Vrankx aren’t getting enough playtime while Bennacer and Tonali are being overworked and Brahim and CDK has been mediocre the whole season.

  4. Pioli is good but not great, he’ll accept anything even with limited budget.
Carletto, Mou, Pep, Conte & other great coach won’t be that great with cheap money policy, even Klop move from Dortmund to be get more financial freedom to choose players, the best Pioli can be is to be new Arsene Wenger = profitable but less trophy
