AS: Real Madrid join Milan and Liverpool in race for Turkish talent

By Oliver Fisher -

A new contender has emerged in the race to sign Arda Güler with Real Madrid now in the running too, according to a report.

Diario AS write that Güler already attracting the attention of some of the biggest names in European football such as Liverpool, Milan and Benfica after an impressive breakout season for Fenerbahce at the age of just 18.

Now, Real Madrid have joined the running having learned tha this contract reportedly includes a release clause that would allow him to leave for a fee of €17.5m.

It follows on from suggestions that Sevilla – who faced Güler in last season’s Europa League – are keen on signing him, with suggestions that a bidding war could now break out in salary terms to land the teenager.

Despite this, Real Madrid are well stocked in the creative department after the arrival of Jude Bellingham and the return of Brahim Diaz, meaning the Turk might not get guaranteed playing time like at Milan.

  1. Well Real has indicated that their plan is to place this kid in their reserve team and then eventually start working him into their senior team in few years…..

I bet he is super excited about that

    1. No, he is super excited about coming to Milan where he will be coached by Pioli – the youngster developing wizard. Are you kidding? 😀

      1. Not entirely sure why Pioli wouldn’t have a good reputation here? We won Serie A with one of the lowest average ages and plenty of our established players joined in a very ‘raw’ state.

Kalulu, Leao, Hernandez, Tonali, Saelamakers, Diaz, Bennacer, Tomori, Thiaw… these players were all between 20 and 23 when they started working under Pioli and they’ve all seen lots of game time and development.

We have a terrible record at promoting kids from the youth team to the main squad, but maybe that’s an issue with the wider club? Pioli has no issue with using a lot of the young players we’ve acquired in recent seasons.

  2. If Furlani is serious about this kid, then he better jump on the release clause quickly, otherwise a richer club will pay more to pick him up.

    1. If this kid’s father is serious about making an absolute killing, he’ll make sure to get the highest commission prices by talking to a lot of clubs and getting them to compete with each other – he has no need to rush, so it makes little difference how urgently Milan want a deal done.

    2. Issue is, his father operates as his agent , he will work to remove the release clause and secure a higher payment for himself and the club to make a deal go through. He can simply refuse to negotiate a deal for the player until the clause is removed. This won’t be as straightforward as activating the clause and snatching him away from his club. The dad also wants sign on compensation. This might place us out of the running. With Tonali out, agents will put pressure to squeeze more money out of us. Terrible decision to sell him before replacements are secured.

      1. so will other teams. They know we will be desperate to add players to our team since we will be in a disadvantaged negotiation position. We have to buy with him gone so they can increase demands.

  3. With Madrid in the picture, kiss this target goodbye. They can afford to sign him long term and loan him back to his club. His father gets his payday, the club keeps their player for a couple more seasons and they have an asset secured with no extra pressure to develop getting first team time until he is readier to perform there. Disaster on the horizon for this potential signing.
