CM: Atalanta striker compared to Haaland on Milan’s radar but price is now €50m+

By Oliver Fisher -

Rasmus Hojlund is attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs after impressing since arriving at Atalanta in the summer, with AC Milan having him on their radar.

Calciomercato.com begin a report by talking about the obvious points of comparison between Hojlund and Erling Haaland as they are both tall, powerful, fast and Scandinavian, with an eye for goal as well of course.

To beat the competition from the big clubs around Europe, Atalanta had to pay €17m to land the 20-year-old from Sturm Graz, but their investment is being repaid already with six goals in 20 games including one against Lazio at the weekend.

Now that €17m seems a small price to pay considering how much Atalanta could potentially sell for. Milan thought about a move in the summer when the scouting team had reported Hojlund to Paolo Maldini and the Rossoneri director was particularly impressed, but basically the entire budget when on Charles De Ketelaere.

Juventus also tested the ground without going that far because they already have Vlahovic and Kean in that role, so now La Dea can smile as they are already thinking ahead to a huge capital gain.

The big names in the Premier League are moving towards Hojlund for an evaluation that will soon break through the €50m mark as Atalanta’s trend of getting there first to talent continues.

  1. If Colombo had to be sent on loan, would this guy have had a shot with Pioli in charge? I’m not trying to be sassy or even witty but we all know how it is with Pioli and the only excuse I can make for him is that he’s at a club where results are all that matters so there’s no way he can put himself at risk by giving chances to youngsters unless trusted first teamers get injured and there’s no other option. It’s painful though that sometimes we’re linked with expensive young players as though we don’t have young players of our own that can be developed and go for the same price.

  2. Santiago Gimenez is considered the Mexican Haaland by scouts. He’s cheaper, has the Italian passport, is 21 We need him immediately!!!

    1. Indeed. I was going to write something similar but can’t top that comment. Spot on.

Plus they have a ballsy enough coach to actually use the youngsters instead of relying on some “Liverpool-legends”…

    2. Or maybe Milan should hire a sporting director that will listen to our scouting team.
Remember that if Maldini and Massara were listening to Moncada, our chief scout, Milan would have now had Enzo Fernandez and Kolo Muani, instead of Pobega and Origi, and now we wouldn’t have to be searching for a striker or a central midfielder

  3. Funny thing is if milan had bought this player at the start of the season people would have loudly complained like a womens wailing choir but now he is considered the second coming of the christ.

    1. Yeah same case like enzo offered to AC Milan last summer 18m euro by river & alvarez offered by his agent 25m euro , some fans mocked them because they are unknown player from south america but now enzo price 120m , it is more than all AC Milan midfield combine price tag now

      1. Where there is dealt or not dealt errors will ocour. When that is said it can be argued that the entire europe besides of benfica messed up on that potential deal. I would also argue muani but why didnt for example bayern munich bet on that player instead instead of moteng. Surely a lot bayern fans must be disgruntled in regard of not signing him.
Im from denmark and i know fc copenhagen were offered haaland when he was in molde but they refused the deal. They also refused an offer to sign luka modric when he was a teenager in croatia.
Every club makes its mistakes and i will also argue that chelsea made a mistake in not signing him early on as they could have saved a load of cash.

        1. What I like about your comment is that all by itself, it crushes the argument of retrospective-wannabe-scouts. Of course there’s Amine Adli, Ajer, Romain Faivre and so on whom we bypassed and I’d like to think they’re all worth hundreds of millions by now.

  4. We are A.C. Milan. Players come to us naturally, especially from minor teams like Atalanta. Considering how promising and talented Hojlund is, we might as well offer up to 5 or 6 Mil. I’m positive that nobody will take into account the fact that the player is worth something around 40Mil because we are AC Milan. I’m also inclined to thinking that if Atalanta doesn’t immediately subdue to our financial requests, we will be willing, after months of exhausting negotiations, to offer the insane amount of 6.1/6.15 Mils for the player.
Unfortunately that would mean sacrificing our entire market budget for the next 2 seasons on a single player but Im confident it would be worth it

    1. Milans management are fully aware of that atalanta paid 17 mil for højlund in august so i can pretty much guarantee you that they wont offer anything below that fee in the event of making a bid for the dane. But how many milan fans would actually have accepted us to pay such a fee for a player that up untill recently wasnt known outside of denamark and austria ? Not many.

    1. Damn, but Piatek first half season with us was a beast. Honestly I thought we’be sorted out for a good amount of time in the forward department seeing his first half.
