CorSera: Poor attack and injuries see Milan slip up again – change of gear needed immediately

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan once again failed to score during last night’s 0-0 draw against Torino, making it four goals in the last seven games as the Scudetto race got even tighter.

Stefano Pioli’s team are still have two points clear of Napoli and Inter in the standings, but the Nerazzurri still have a game in hand which now means that the title dream is out of the Rossoneri’s hands.

Il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) are reporting that everything is still open in the Scudetto race but it is necessary to change gears immediately and avoid other mistakes, starting from the next match scheduled for Friday evening against Genoa.

There are simply very few positive signs coming from the attack where Giroud and Leao continue to be relied upon too much and that means that yet another solid defensive performance and another clean sheet went without reward.

A number of late absences didn’t help as Pioli was robbed of vital players for the away match in Turin. In addition to Kjaer and Florenzi, Ibrahimovic was out due overload in the knee and Rebic, Bennacer and Castillejo sustained muscle fatigue. Their absence was felt a lot yesterday, especially in the attack and because of the lack of options on the bench.

  1. Please stop using this “missing players” excuse. If Bennacer plays, we say that Tonali was missing; If Tonali Plays we say that Bennacer was missing. Must we play with 20 men to score? Let us admit that we have no idea how to score goals.

    1. The problem was that Pioli had no viable options for substitution. Could have brought on Rebic instead of Leao who looked very tired the last 20 minutes. Ibra for Giroud. Played Kessie instead of Diaz who was horrible – again.
Why arent’t they scoring goals? Mostly the buildup is much too slow. Especially with Kessie in the #10 role. And the fast attacks they have get squandered. Mostly by players like Saelemaekers and Diaz who haven’t scored in half a year and are visible scared.

Also hats off to Bremer for his brilliant display. The way that guy destroyed any half decent chance Milan had was stunning.

      1. And I’d change the CB-target to Bremer – or no one. He was absolutely perfect. If Inter buys him it’s game over for next year’s scudetto already. Botman ain’t **** compared to Bremer.

  2. What is happening during the week in training sessions when after a week in between games Milan has 3 players ruled out of an important game because of muscle fatigue?
The club needs to address Pioli and his coaching team and their training methods. All these injuries happening to Milan since this man became coach are unreal for a club of Milan stature
